While comprehensive and ongoing competitiveintelligence (CI) is employed in a variety ofindustries to provide valuable input for broadstrategic decisions, the construction industry lagsbehind in adopting this technique. This paperpresents a CI model for use in the constructioncontractor selection process, which is a criticalelement of construction project management and onethat inherently entails risk and risk management.The use of CI for contractor selection is animportant development in light of the realization onthe part of many companies that the diffuse natureof the information and lack of robust analysis createnumerous inconveniences during the decision makingprocess. Based on the application of the CImethod for a competitive environment, the proposedmodel has the potential to improve the process forassessing and selecting contractors. This paperdescribes the proposed model, including backgroundinformation, structural details, guidelines for its useand implementation, and key data analysis findings.
